The bad news is that getting a job is like a second job.  The good news is that if you set a weekly goal and achieve it, you can celebrate a little victory each week.

Vary your goals based on your schedule: less time during busy weeks, more time during slow ones.  Always try to allow some time for all three tracks (see my previous post) however, if you only have time for one focus on Track 2.

Track 1: Reactive

Apply to 1-5 jobs per week; keep the pipeline full even if you are in the process at one or two firms that seem promising.  You never know.

Track 2: Proactive

Set up 1-3 coffees or informational interviews per week with personal contacts.

Track 3: Professional Learning

Set aside 2-4 hours per week to read, take an online course or do a little research.

That's it!  Do as little or as much as you can.  Allow for the fact that sometimes your heart just isn't going to be in it, but that if you really want it you've got to be keep going.
